Tales from the Meadery - June 2026

June was a month of contrasts. One minute we were being battered by winds fit to test the seaworthiness of a Viking longship, the next we were wondering whether we'd accidentally set up the Meadery in the Mediterranean.

As some of you may already know from our social media, early June saw Mrs Mead discover a previously unknown talent: flight.

Unfortunately, this discovery involved a gazebo.

When a particularly enthusiastic gust decided that our gazebo belonged several counties away, Mrs Mead stubbornly refused to release her grip. For a brief and glorious moment, she achieved what generations of Saxons could only dream of and went 'Full Metal Mary Poppins' across the event field.

She was, admittedly, rather pleased to discover she could fly.

Less pleasing was the torn shoulder muscle that accompanied this achievement.

Since then, she has been enthusiastically quoting Health & Safety regulations and enquiring whether the meadery has any HR policies regarding work-related injuries. Mr Mead has not yet found the heart to explain that she is, in fact, the HR department.

Meanwhile, Mr Mead has spent the month enjoying the company of his new flag. It has flown proudly at every event throughout June, apparently displaying considerably better aerial discipline than Mrs Mead. He has been absolutely delighted with it and has found more reasons to put it up than most people find reasons to boil a kettle.

So, now June has drawn to a close, we are grateful to report that the mead is flowing, the flag is flying, and Mrs Mead has been firmly advised that gazebos are not an approved method of transport.
